FROM THE EDITOR- MARCH 2011

As we approach the spring and summer seasons we look forward to those liberating days. Soon we will store our winter coats and boots. We will spend more time outdoors in sun that adds a gold tint not only to our skin, but also to our hopes and dreams.

It was during one of these carefree summer days that Prippie™ was born. Bored with my simple seersucker shorts, I wanted to add something more to my preppy style. I was searching for a look to fit my growing personality, and to make my popped collar appearance mature. I wasn’t alone in this thought process. During a laid back lunch with my friend, Emily, in a Georgetown café, our conversation turned to this topic. Our style was evolving. We were more socially and environmentally aware than before. We were borrowing trends and ideas from the hippie culture. As we talked, I started to wonder where my new style and personality fit. I wasn’t a hipster and I wasn’t exactly a hippie. My style was still preppy, but more modern. And then it hit me. I was a Prippie™.

Eager to share this world with others, I began a small accessories line. I started selling the items on Etsy.com and the idea of Prippie™ began to catch on. As the line continued to sell, people wanted to know more about this unique way of life. Thus, Prippie™ Magazine was born, an online forum for all things Prippie™.

That was 2008. Today Prippie™ is quickly growing, employing writers from all over the world. We will soon spread to college campuses, and we are continually coming up with innovative insights into the Prippie™ concept. I am excited to have such a supportive group of contributors who are so interested in helping prippie grow to its fullest potential. I am also excited to be able to ACTUALLY use that college English degree ;)

This past month was full of change and development. New writers came onto the scene, the website had a makeover, and I finally forced myself to learn how to use Twitter. This next month at Prippie™ will focus on the socially aware aspect of the lifestyle. We will highlight events such as International Women’s Day (March 8th) and Davidson College’s Bosom Buddies fundraiser for breast cancer awareness (March 12). We will also continue to push our own fundraising efforts through Prippie™ in Pink for Breast Cancer, our main cause.

So welcome to our life. I hope you enjoy what you see and will join us in this movement as we spread Prippie™ around the world.

Let’s Get Prippie™,
